Upcoming Event: Pilgrimage in honour of Blessed Dominic Barberi
Monday 27th August, 12pm
St. Anne & Bl. Dominic’s church, Sutton St Helen’s, WA9 3ZD
Blessed Dominic Barberi was the first to bring the message of the Passionists to England, setting sail from Italy to these shores in the 1840s. Always on the side of the poor, the “crucified of today”, he also paved a way for greater respect between Catholics and non-Catholics and has been called “the father and herald of modern ecumenism”. One of the defining moments of his ministry was receiving John Henry Newman into the Church.
Every year a pilgrimage is held in his honour at his shrine at St. Anne & Bl. Dominic’s church in Sutton, St Helen’s. This year the chief celebrant at the mass will be the Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon, Archbishop of Liverpool. All are welcome to attend, and to refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.
