Nomad Podcast: When Not to Obey the Rulers and Authorities
30th April 2019
When is it right to say no to the rulers and authorities? Would we go to prison for our convictions? And how would we go about modelling a community that points to the world to come?
During the Extinction Rebellion protests in London the Nomad podcast team interviewed Fr Martin Newell about his non-violent protests against the arms trade and more recently the government’s inaction on the climate crisis. More than ever, argues Martin, we need to resist the rules and authorities, as the future of the planet is at stake.
Nomad is an online community, which explores contemplative practices and theology, and supports each other on the journey. It was formed as a podcast in 2009 by a group of friends with the shared experience of liking Jesus but being increasingly frustrated with organised religion.
Over the years they have interviewed Rachel Held Evans, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Greg Boyd, Rob Bell, Shane Claiborne, Brian McLaren, Krista Tippett, Rowan Williams, Tom Wright and many unsung heroes of the faith, and now host monthly Devotionals and a Book Club.
